Through extensive consultation with mahouts and elephant owners, we have designed the Baby Bonus system. In such an impoverished nation as Laos, elephant owners need their income supplemented while their elephant is pregnant or lactating, as they are unable to work and raise income for the family.
You can sponsor the birth of a baby elephant for €1,500. With this amount ElefantAsia’s qualified veterinary team can undertake medical checks on mother and baby throughout the pregnancy and after the birth. Money will also be given to the elephant owners in instalments in order to compensate their loss of income during the elephant’s “maternity leave”.
ElefantAsia will keep you informed of the health and status of the mother elephant and her baby throughout the gestation period (22 months!) as well as after the birth.
